Texas: Crystal Lagoons Project, Windsong Ranch, To Be Officially Inaugurated By Michael Phelps
Food halls, landscaped parks and fitness centers are familiar must-haves these days for urban mixed-use developments, but the next generation of major projects may also include Crystal Lagoons® amenities, according to The Dallas Morning News.
The first of the area’s resort-style water features, Prosper’s Windsong Ranch development on U.S. Highway 380, will be officially opened by the renowned Olympic swimmer, Michael Phelps, Crystal Lagoons global ambassador.
The 5-acre crystalline lagoon and pristine beach is already a hit with residents of the big housing community. And local commercial developers are eyeing the projects, too, as an amenity for their mixed-use complexes.
“Historically our lagoons have been in master-planned communities and hospitality projects around the world,” said Lisa Moore, who heads the Dallas office of Crystal Lagoons. “Over 90% of the projects we are working on right now are mixed-use developments.”
Moore said most of the lagoons she is working on range in size from 2 to 5 acres.
Developers of projects with retail, apartments, hotels and offices are looking at ways to add a lagoon.
“I’m seeing more entertainment districts where they can incorporate a lagoon,” Moore said. “We can create a retail restaurant boardwalk around the lagoon.”
“It’s not all about getting in the water,” she said. “People want to dine around the water and go shopping with that ambience.”
One of the local projects considering a Crystal Lagoons amenity is the more than $1 billion redevelopment of the Collin Creek Mall site in Plano. Owner Centurion American Development is working on a plan to add a lagoon to the more than 100-acre project.
“Crystal Lagoons is trying to incorporate a lagoon into their development plan,” Moore said. “It’s a smaller site. It would be closer to a 2-acre lagoon.”
“That is one of only several repurposed mall sites we’re working with in the U.S.”
Moore said the multinational water innovation company is working on more than 30 Crystal Lagoons projects in Texas alone.
Now that the Prosper lagoon is open, potential clients can see the lagoon without buying a plane ticket to Florida or Mexico.
Crystal Lagoons is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, which has developed a patent-protected technology that allows the construction and maintenance of unlimited-size clear water lagoons at very low costs.
