The most important advantages offered by Crystal Lagoons technology are its low construction and maintenance costs, the use of any type of water source and its low water consumption.
The sustainable technology developed and patented by Crystal Lagoons has become the World’s Top Amenity and has improved millions of lives worldwide. This technology’s extraordinary advantages, low construction and maintenance costs, and sustainable properties have allowed Crystal Lagoons to have a portfolio of more than 1,100 projects in different stages of operation, planning, design, and construction in more than 60 countries worldwide.
The technology of Crystal Lagoons applies a system of pulses of disinfection that allows up to 100 times less chemicals than those used in conventional swimming pools.
Conventional swimming pool technology requires maintaining high levels of residual chlorine or other disinfectants in the water, to achieve permanent disinfection and avoid contamination of water by external agents, such as swimmers. Maintaining such high and permanent levels of chemicals in large bodies of water has very high costs, which makes it economically unfeasible. In addition, it generates a large amount of by-products that can be harmful to the environment. Therefore, it is not viable to apply this disinfection technology in large bodies of water.
Crystal Lagoons patented solution consists of applying controlled pulses of small amounts of safe additives in the water of the lagoons, in very specific patterns that are determined by their own algorithms. This way, it is not necessary to maintain a high and permanent level of disinfection in the water.
The results of this efficient system based on pulses of disinfection allows to use up to 100 times less chemicals compared to conventional swimming pools and drinking water treatments, reducing the excessive costs of additives and their consequent damage to the environment.
The application of additives is determined electronically by injectors and sensors strategically located in the lagoon. This operation is managed online by the Crystal Lagoons Control Center so that the presence of qualified personnel for the application of the additives and the monitoring of the water quality of the lagoon is not necessary.
Crystal Lagoons has also developed and patented a new technology that enables creating different zones within large bodies of water, which can meet different water quality standards according to local regulatory requirements.
Crystal Lagoons technology includes an efficient filtration system that uses only 2% of the energy compared to conventional centralized swimming pool filtration systems.
Traditional swimming pool technology requires the filtration of the full volume of water between 1 to 6 times a day (usually 4 times daily, depending on local regulations). For this, large and costly centralized filtration systems are used but not viable in large bodies of water. If this technology were applied to lagoons, the filtration systems would be exorbitant due to the large volumes of water that would have to be filtered daily, with a significant impact on the costs and physical space necessary for their installation. Likewise, the consumption of energy for the operation of filters and pumps would be immense. Therefore, the use of pool filtration systems for large lakes or lagoons is neither economically feasible nor technologically viable.
Crystal Lagoons patented solution consists of applying safe additives and different ultrasonic waves in the water, which causes the contaminating particles to agglomerate into larger particles, which are later removed from the lagoon. With this technique, it allows for the filtration of only a small portion of the total volume of water.
Crystal Lagoons efficient filtration system consumes only 2% of the energy compared to conventional swimming pool filtration systems. In addition, as the Crystal Lagoons filtered volume is up to 300 times lower than in conventional systems, the complete filtration system is smaller, allowing the space required for the installation of pumps and filters to be reduced.
All lagoons that use Crystal Lagoons technology around the world are monitored, controlled, and operated online from the Crystal Lagoons Control Center (CLCC) 24/7.
Specially designed measuring systems and sensors continuously report the specific physico-chemical properties and other water quality parameters, through a telemetric platform operated from the CLCC, through the cloud. All the mechanical and hydraulic systems of the lagoons around the world are activated and controlled from the CLCC, allowing 24/7 online monitoring and operation, ensuring excellent water quality all year round.
The technologies developed by Crystal Lagoons are protected through diverse intellectual property mechanisms, such as patents, trade secrets, trademarks, trade dress, designs, and copyrights.
The protection of the technology includes a patent portfolio of over 2,000 patents in over 190 countries and/or territories, in addition to trademarks, designs, copyrights, trade secrets and trade dress for: construction methods and techniques, including structures to contain large water bodies; methods and processes for the treatment of large water bodies; several systems and devices for bottom cleaning; systems, methods, and processes related to efficient filtration technologies; localized disinfection systems, methods and systems for cooling industrial processes through crystalline lagoons; water purification technologies, surface cleaning systems and degreasers; ultrasound equipment and systems; plastic coatings and geomembranes in addition to lining systems; additives and water treatment products and chemicals; conceptual and architectural designs; engineering plans and technical designs; hydraulic systems; floating lagoon structures and methods for treating water contained within such structures; modular treatment and dosing systems, which include machine room designs; trademarks in different classes; and trade dress and look & feel of the trademark.
These patents also include systems and methods for urban beaches, including urban beach entertainment complexes for public access that include a crystalline lagoon as their centerpiece, and methods for providing efficient use of land through the use of urban beach entertainment complexes.
This new development by Crystal Lagoons allows floating crystalline lagoons to be built without using land, located in natural or man-made lakes with low water quality. Thanks to these floating lagoons, an idyllic beach paradise can be created and water sports can be practiced in a safe way, giving new value to spaces that could not be used for recreational purposes.
There are more than 50 million bodies of water in the world that are not used for recreational purposes, due to poor water quality or unattractiveness. In the United States alone, there are more than 140,000 of this type of water bodies. Our new development, Floating Crystalline Lagoons, is changing this reality and generating a global impact by creating an idyllic beach-like environment, where you can also practice watersports. This concept provides endless possibilities for the use of lakes, lagoons, rivers, bays and the sea, with an attraction never before seen.
Imagine a city with lakes that are currently unused, which can become an unparalleled attraction by including a crystalline floating lagoon. This concept can change and revitalize city life, generating a new and refreshing look. Another relevant aspect is that the floating lagoons also allow industrial uses, by generating floating cooling systems to provide high microbiological quality water to thermoelectric plants and other industrial processes.
These floating crystalline lagoons apply their proven and patented water treatment technology, through floating structures installed inside larger bodies of water, connected to the land via floating decks and bridges. Several projects are currently being developed around the world.
