Small Lagoons by Crystal Lagoons™ Arrive to Replace Commercial Swimming Pools in Phoenix

Swimming pools are a thing of the past. That’s the message from Crystal Lagoons, a global leader in water innovation, as they launch their most disruptive concept yet: Small Lagoons by Crystal Lagoons™, a compact amenity designed to transform developments into beach-front oases.

Crystal Lagoons has been recognized worldwide for nearly two decades for creating stunning crystalline lagoons that turn any project into a resort-style destination. This vision is now being extended to a broader range of developments across Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun, from fast-growing suburbs in Scottsdale and Chandler to urban mixed-use projects downtown.

Targeted to fit spaces under 1 acre, including a new size down to 0.5 acre, this amenity makes the idyllic beach lifestyle accessible to residential, multifamily, and hotel projects without the massive footprint or high investment traditionally associated with significant water features.

A Smart Solution for Phoenix Developers

The real estate and hospitality sectors in Phoenix are under constant pressure to stand out in a booming market. Whether it’s a new master-planned community, a multifamily project, or a boutique desert hotel, developers are looking for unique, sustainable amenities that won’t inflate costs or exacerbate water usage concerns.

Small Lagoons by Crystal Lagoons™ provide the perfect solution, combining innovation, sustainability, and profitability in a new, compact format. These crystalline lagoons cost up to eight times less to build than traditional pools and generate far greater appeal, offering a unique selling point in Arizona’s competitive landscape.

“We are excited to bring this sustainable and profitable product to Florida. Small Lagoons by Crystal Lagoons™ are an ideal solution for developers who want to offer a unique, differentiating amenity that provides a resort-like feel without traditional pools' high construction and maintenance costs,"

A Game-Changer for Multifamily Projects

Multifamily developments in dense metropolitan areas, such as Tempe or Mesa, often face severe space and budget constraints. In these competitive markets, a traditional pool may not be enough to attract and retain residents. Small Lagoons by Crystal Lagoons™ step in to create a resort-style environment, significantly increasing rental appeal, resident satisfaction, and long-term retention. Today’s renters, from young professionals to families, are looking for experiential living—and the sought-after beach lifestyle is a compelling draw.

These lagoons can also serve as community hubs, hosting events, water sports, and social gatherings that foster a sense of community, a key factor for long-term occupancy.

More Than a Pool, a Destination

While pools offer seasonal refreshment, they rarely add long-term value. Small Lagoons by Crystal Lagoons™ transform every square foot into an experience. Featuring turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and lagoon-side programming, they turn underutilized land into a stunning year-round destination, especially when combined with the option for heated water.

These lagoons become a magnet for residents and tourists, boosting sales velocity, raising property values, and increasing hotel occupancy rates.

The project will become the largest urban beach in Europe, fulfilling a long-awaited aspiration for Madrid’s residents. It will be developed under the Public Access Lagoons® model, also known as PAL® projects, accessible to all through ticketed entry.

For a long time, the inhabitants of Madrid, Spain’s capital, have longed to experience beach life within the city. Today, that dream will come true thanks to Crystal Lagoons, as the municipal council of the town of Alovera has approved a project that will enable the development of the largest urban beach in Europe. This will put an end to the wait, allowing Madrid’s residents to enjoy crystalline waters and white sandy beaches.

The project

This is Alovera Beach, a new Public Access Lagoons® development, also known as a PAL® project, located just 30 minutes from Madrid. Its centerpiece will be a 5.2-acre lagoon powered by Crystal Lagoons® technology, accessible to all through ticketed entry. The body of water will be suitable for swimming and water sports, and will be surrounded by 16,000 m² of white sand beaches.

Contribution to the Community

The complex will represent an investment of over € 20 million and create more than 140 direct jobs. In addition to the crystalline lagoon, it will feature a range of infrastructure characteristics from the PAL® model. This will include:
