Miami-based innovation firm, Crystal Lagoons®, has seen ample media coverage due to the opening of its Lago Mar water amenity in Texas. Developed together with Houston-based developer Land Tejas, the 12-acre lagoon is part of a master-planned community in Texas City, which has opened exclusively for residents.
The Lago Mar lagoon spans more than a quarter mile from end to end and has more than a mile of shoreline, making it the largest Crystal Lagoons amenity in the U.S. in terms of length and water shoreline. The new crystalline lagoon is nearly six times larger than the first Crystal Lagoons amenity developed together with Land Tejas, known as Balmoral, located in Humble.
However, work on future phases continues, and the amenity will include hotels, condo buildings, retail, dining, and more, with plans of becoming a PAL™ development.
This new business model will allow for a separate pay-for-access beach club with multiple white sand beaches for the general public with a cabana pool, a two-story swim-up bar on an island, a kid’s beach with water features, a floating obstacle course.
It will also provide a watersports facility including kayaks, paddleboards and small sailboats. An event center with a beachfront event lawn for corporate events, weddings and concerts is also in the plans.
